Supporting Youth in Foster Care

Certain days remain particularly memorable, and today was one such day for me. My wife and I had the distinct privilege of volunteering at a local event titled Bright Futures: Fostering Financial Literacy. This remarkable initiative was organized to support foster youth as they transition into adulthood. I was paired with a young man, and we had the opportunity to get to know each other over lunch, listen to an informative presentation on financial basics and budgeting, and then work on his shopping list. We then proceeded to Walmart to shop together and apply the budgeting skills in a real-world scenario.
Supporting youth within the foster care system is a cause we are deeply passionate about, having previously served as a respite foster care family. Each child who came into our home left a lasting impact on me and holds a special place in my heart. The young man I met today was no exception. He is intelligent, talented, kind, and inspired me in unforgettable ways. I strongly encourage everyone to consider supporting foster youth, whether by participating in events such as Bright Futures or by becoming certified to provide a nurturing home for an inspiring child.
